    ACA Update: DC “Power Plays” and “Penalty Kills”
    In hockey, teams are often up a man to score goals or down a man to prevent goals. So it is in Washington, D.C., where the ACA Team works daily to move good policies forward for our Members, and prevent bad policies from taking effect. In 2019, ACA is looking to score on must-pass legislation focusing on broadcast carriage reform and in stopping or imposing significant conditions on the Nexstar-Tribune merger. On the other hand, ACA will be working in DC to protect and promote broadband investment by opposing regulatory overreach. The ACA Team is ready to discuss the group’s priorities and what you can expect from the Federal Communications Commission and Capitol Hill in 2019.

    For each of our members there is a constant challenge to keep increasing broadband capacity. In coax networks, more efficient use of bandwidth used for video is imperative for operators to expand their broadband services that are already challenged by OTT video sources using unicast IP. Many operators are seeking a viable transition to support IP video in the near future.     Public retransmission consent disputes with broadcasters are becoming more frequent and widespread for cable and satellite operators, incIuding NCTC members. Several members have taken off the gloves and are punching back at unreasonable demands by broadcasters. Hear how these members have called ‘foul’ on certain broadcasters and were required to discontinue carriage of a broadcast station during the dispute. Learn about the playbook they used to manage communication with customers, customer service, public relations efforts, local government concerns and other matters.
