NCTC Files FCC Comments Documenting Harms to Small Cable Subscribers “A Tax on Rural America”

Lenexa, KS – The National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC), which represents more than 800 small and midsized independent cable operators across the country, filed comments last week with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) documenting the harm to millions of consumers in rural America that would result from the Sinclair-Tribune merger. The NCTC urged the Commission to ensure competition and prevent small cable operators and their subscribers from being harmed. NCTC members operate primarily in rural and smaller markets.

Lenexa, KS – The National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC), which represents 800 of the smallest, most rural cable operators in the country, today expressed concerns about the proposed Sinclair-Tribune merger, saying it believes Sinclair will use its size to impose disproportionally higher costs on smaller operators, leading to significant cost increases for consumers. NCTC believes recent negotiating tactics used by Sinclair provide a clear indication that the company will wield its dominant power to take advantage of much smaller companies. NCTC rarely comments on pending merger activity but the urgent situation with Sinclair has necessitated a public response.

Campaign Launch Timed To 25th Anniversary Of Retrans' Birth

PITTSBURGH, October 4, 2017 -The American Cable Association (ACA) today launched TV Ransom, a national campaign to set the record straight that corporate broadcasters are to blame for out-of-control retransmission consent fees and TV station blackouts that blindside consumers with the needless loss of their favorite news, weather reports, and national sporting and entertainment events.

Approval Would Send Retransmission Consent Fees, TV Signal Blackouts Soaring

PITTSBURGH, August 8, 2017 - The American Cable Association is urging the Federal Communications Commission to reject Sinclair's proposed megamerger with Tribune Media Co. to protect competition and consumers from being forced to pay higher fees to receive local broadcast stations that are owned by the combined company.

Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) today announced an agreement to offer PlayStation™Vue, the pioneering Internet-based live TV service, to customers of the 850+ cable and broadband systems comprising the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC).
